Last Thursday we had a very interesting discussion on routines and rituals. As a baseline for our discussion, we used this article: https://blog.rescuetime.com/workplace-routines-and-rituals/
We did a round table reading each paragraph, clarifying if any vocabulary or other type of question was required. The beauty of this way of doing is that each folk shared his or her ideas around each subject we touched.
It was very remarkable the different perception each of us have about routines: some though that they were needed because they enable us to be more productive and thus, being able to have more spare time to focus our attention in more creative stuff. And some others considered that they limit the space or freedom because they are iterative and cumbersome.
The climax of the discussion was reached when we went through the “rituals”topic; a team member raised the set of rituals that the tennis player Rafa Nadal shows just before his serve or aligning his water bottles.
We also reflected on the impact or even surprise that our routines could cause in others. Or the challenge that could mean to stick to too rigid routines that could prevent us to embrace improvement changes.
Last, but not least, we are very grateful of having Paul back with us; for that each team member wrote a funny or emotive quote on a piece of paper and we gave them all to him.
More stuff to come, stay tuned!
